RUE CAUMARTIN ROCHE & CIE GRANDE PRIX PARIS 1900 PROSTITUTION BROTHEL CANDLES

Up for auction are these wild Roche & Cie (French Distributor) Rue Caumartin (Belgium manufacturer) Paris Grand Prix Exposition of 1900 prostitution/brothel candles.  This full and complete set features candles that were burned by the prostitute to time her session with her client.  Paris prostitutes were the rage during the 1900 exposition and the candles were used by high end houses of ill repute throughout the city.  The candles were place in a hole on one side of the box and burnt for 7 minutes for one session.  If the client wanted longer, he had to buy another 7 minute candle so THEY BETTER BE QUICK!!!  The self lighting match tipped candles are in a 3 1/8 inch X 1 5/8 box with a striker on one end and a pull tab for opening the box on the other end.  There is a picture of Opera star and 1900 era French sexy star Gusti Zimmerman on one side.  On the other is a picture of a beautiful lady of the night!  One side panel says "PARIS RUE CAUMARTIN MADE IN BELGIUM" for the manufacturer.  The other side panel says 'ROCHE & CIE GRAND PRIX PARIS 1900" for the French distributor and the Paris Exposition of 1900.  The box is in nice shape, especially for being over 120 years old, with just some fairly minor wear, mostly along the edges.  Graphics are colorful and bright.  The complete set of candles and striker are in excellent shape.  Pull tab is still viable and intact.  A great piece in nice shape offered with NO RESERVE!!!
