Our shoelace repair kit contains enough tips (12) and glue for 3 sets of shoestrings. Use one set (4 tips) to replace your current lace tips and store the other 2 sets for later problems. The diameter of our tips will fit flat, round, or oval shoelaces. Our tips are sized for dress, casual, oxfords, tennis, heavy duty work boots, skates, hiking boots and everyday shoes.
It's a frustrating waste of your time trying to poke a frayed shoelace end through an eyelet.

The standard length for finished tips is 3/4 inch. Our tips are 1 inch long for ease of handling during instillation and can be easily trimmed to the length you prefer with a household scissors. Each 3 color set of 4 tips and our single color set of 12 tips
includes one tube of super glue
. Apply two drops of super glue on each end then slide the PVC tip over the end. For those who have never replaced their shoelace tips, we include two 'practice' tips (14 total) and a set of detailed instructions. Applying super glue inside the plastic tip compared to glue alone or using a PVC tip alone is double coverage resulting in a stronger, longer lasting aglet.
Heat Shrink Tubing:
PVC plastic pellets are extruded and made into a round tube. The tube is then exposed to
high intensity radiation and expanded to
twice
its original diameter [
expanded state
]. This is the state in which it is sold. We include instructions with your order detailing how to apply 3-4 seconds of high heat that will cause the tip to shrink back to its original diameter [
recovered state
].
As an example only (we don't carry this size tip); if you choose a ½ inch diameter tip keep in mind that it can shrink to ¼ inch after heat is applied to it. It is best to match the tip with a lace that has a diameter larger than 1/4 inch so that as the tip shrinks it cannot shrink over your lace down to 1/4 inch, resulting in a tight fit. When measuring you shoe eyelet choose a PVC tip that will shrink to a diameter smaller than the diameter of your eyelets, but it needs to be large enough (pre shrink size) to slip over your shoelace.

Because the new tips are round, flat laces need to be guided through the tips by sewing a short length of thread through the end of the lace then inserting the needle through the tip and pulling the lace into the tip. Using a tip that is large enough to loosely thread the lace through the tip is a tip that is too large and will not shrink (as heat is applied) tight enough on the lace, and will easily pull off. Our example girls pink shoe flat lace (see picture) is 7mm wide but uses a 3mm tip. Pulling the lace through the new tip with needle and thread solves the problem.
